Barack Obama got some bad news this week when a federal judge ordered that the State Department to release previously redacted data in Hillary Clinton mails which pertained to the Obama administration’s response to the 2012 terrorist attack to the U.S. Embassy at Benghazi.
These emails include summaries of discussions Obama had with Egyptian and Libyan leaders after the attack, which left four Americans dead.
The State Department initially did not publish the emails, which have been discovered on Clinton’s unprotected home host, because they stated the documents deserved a”deliberative process” Freedom of Information Act exemption. However, after reading the mails, Jackson disagreed and said that they didn’t meet the standards for the exemption.
The State Department has requested Jackson to rethink her decision, stating the emails were mistakenly claimed exempt under “deliberative process” and should instead be mastered exempt under a distinct FOIA exclusion, the classified information exemption.
But, Judicial Watch fired back by asserting there was no true error, and that this is just another example of the State Department deliberately trying to shield Clinton by”avoiding identifying emails on Clinton’s unofficial, non-secure email server as classified.”
“A bureau’s deliberate withholding of a FOIA claim, possibly to gain a strategic advantage or, as appears to be the situation here, to protect the agency’s interests and those of its former mind, is’a motive definitely inconsistent with FOIA’s broad remedial purpose…”’ Judicial Watch stated in their suit.
Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton has issued an announcement as an appeal to Donald Trump asking if he knew the State Department has been trying to protect Clinton.
“Does President Trump understand his State and Justice Departments are still trying to Give cover Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama?” Fitton said.
“An extraordinary court judgment that could bring about key answers about the Benghazi outrage has been opposed by the Trump administration. This may well be an illustration of the’deep state’ trying to get away with a cover up — if so then the Trump government must put a halt to it.”
