The increased safety for Sanders comes in the wake of being requested to leave a small Virginia restaurant whose team members are compared to Trump government’s policies. The Secret Service declined to comment.
Sanders’ father, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, revealed his daughter’s household was heckled even more than what was initially said by the owners of Red Hen at Lexington on Friday.
“There’s a part of that story which hasn’t yet been told,” the former governor said.
He continued: “After Sarah and her family abandoned of course Sarah was asked to please vacate — Sarah and her husband just went home, they’d had enough.
But, the rest of her family moved to a restaurant that was different across the street. The person who owns this Red Hen — nobody has told this — then followed them across the street, called individuals and organized a protest, yelling and screaming at them from out another restaurant and creating this spectacle.”
Huckabee added that several of the daughter’s liberal in-laws have been in attendance in the restaurant. He explained the relatives spoke out against the Red Hen owners’ behaviour.
“Among them walked out and said’Look, I really don’t like Trump. I am not a supporter. I am a far — believed liberal — however, you guys are embarrassing me and you are not helping your cause. ”’
President Donald Trump Monday lashed out at the Virginia restaurant. He composed at a tweet that the Red Hen restaurant”should concentrate more on cleaning its filthy canopies, doors and windows (badly needs a paint job) instead of refusing to serve a fine individual like Sarah Huckabee Sanders.”
Trump said: “I had a rule, if a restaurant is filthy on the outside, it’s dirty on the inside!”
Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters at a White House briefing:”Healthy debate about ideas and political philosophy is important… but the forecasts for harassment and push for almost any Trump supporter to avoid the public is improper.”
The restaurant’s co-owner, Stephanie Wilkinson, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press on Monday.
She told The Washington Post that her motives for kicking out Sanders comprised the concerns of employees who were gay and knew Sanders had defended Trump’s desire to bar transgender people from working in the military.
And this goes for many people regardless of politics.”
